COWBOY ACTION

Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) is a multi-gun competitive shooting sport where contestants dress in 19th-century Old West attire and shoot steel targets using period-accurate firearms. Governed internationally by theSingle Action Shooting Society (SASS), it combines historical reenactment, movie-inspired fantasy, and live-fire precision into a highly welcoming, family-friendly sport.

Every competitor uses four distinct guns designed or manufactured in 1899 or earlier (or modern replicas):

  • Two Single-Action Revolvers: Typically chambered in traditional calibers like .45 Colt or .38 Special.
  • One Lever-Action Rifle: Chambered in a pistol-caliber format.
  • One Vintage-Style Shotgun: Options include side-by-side double barrels, lever-actions, or exposed-hammer pump actions (such as the Model 1897).
